Soda Alternatives

With all the recent articles about the negative effects of soda.. I thought I would share our alternatives. :)

Now don't get me wrong, every now and then I love me a fountain coke.. call it PMS! :)

However soda in general is just bad, and DIET is even worse. Your always better with real sugar then artificial!! YUK!

Anywho, here's some healthy alternatives to soda..

1. Water! yup and lots of it!!

We do ice cubes that will slowly melt all day...so you have ice cold water on hand. Throw in some frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries... and it nicely flavors the water... naturally..

Add fresh lemon/lime wedges, fresh orange slices and even some grapes. Adds nice flavor to water.

2. Ice Tea..

We always have a pitcher of tea in the fridge. Usually a regular pitcher. (black tea)  And I prefer an herbal blend. :)  Herbal blends are of course better for you and super tasty. You can sweeten with an organic sugar, demerara, agave or honey! Agave and Honey are both sweeteners that won't raise your insulin levels.

I order through the www.bulkherbstore.com or use Celestial Seasons Herbal Blends.

Some of my favs are Red raspberry, blueberry pomegranate, chamomile, and any fruit blends. :)  Mint!!! and don't forget Sun Tea!!!

3. Seltzer Water

Make sure you get just regular seltzer water with natural flavorings. Be Careful a lots of Seltzers contain aspartame(gasp! very very bad for you) :)

Again Mix in some fresh lemon/lime wedges. :) Fantastic!!

Your family may balk at your attempts to get them soda free. However, I guarantee you will feel much better and so will they when your all not coming down from soda highs.

Oh I almost forgot... You can make you own ginger ale and root beer!!! Both are fantastic and delicious and easy..

I use the recipes out of my http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Country-Living-Fashioned-Recipe/dp/0912365951.

Save the soda for a special occasion, but beware... once you have the first glass it is very hard to stop!!

Let's face it, we don't have to go far to make a better choice, we just have to choose to make a better choice for our families! :)

  1. I am totally with you...pop/soda is just awful for people. The amount of sugar yuck...and anything with aspartame...1000 times worse.

    Great ideas you posted...thank you!

  2. I am with you, I don't buy soda unless I know others may drink it if they are coming over. I usually buy iced tea or juice. Of course water is the best but the kids think it's boring. I think I should get back to making the fresh iced tea and sweeten it with agave this time and see how it comes out.

  3. NICE POST!!! Don't forget you can add sliced cucumbers to your ice cold water also. Very tasty and you feel like your at the spa. I bought a ripe cucumber for my pitcher of water today.
